It feels like christmas morning. tonight, i’ll be heading up to my version of disney world – the lake.
the 4th is a big deal in my life. it seems to become an even bigger deal every year as my friends and i have busier schedules, less vacation time, more weddings, more obligations.
but every 4th – we have a few days to just be the old lake crew. we turn off our phones and back into 12 year olds. we feel free. we build ski pyramids and go skinny dipping and just take the day on as one big adventure. we just sit at kasota. for hours. until someone decides it’s time to go air chairing. or jumping. for a few days we forget about all those nagging life problems for a little while. and sometimes, that’s all you need.
the lake is one of those places where i feel most myself. i hope you have a place like clear lake in your life. it makes the whole world better. sunshine-ier.
so this little love letter is to all things 4th of july. all things america. and yes, the festive holiday themed things addiction obsession rages on. it’s my party and i’ll make cute american flag things if i want to.
also, it wouldn’t be right to speak about the 4th without sending my heart up and out to all those who sacrifice so much to protect and defend this great nation. thank you isn’t nearly enough. we bow to you. we worship you.
this 4 ingredient amaretto fruit dip – need i tell you again? it’s like floating on a cloud.
this american flag fruit salad – i have a festive food addiction. not seeking help.
pulled pork sliders – it’s unamerican not to.
this black bean, corn and avocado salad. because we need a second food group in addition to booze.
watermelon tequila cocktail – because no great story ever started with someone eating a salad.
oh and these caprese skewers because they’re cute.
ahhh and lemon blueberry bars. ya gotta.
happy 4th you guys!! don’t forget to comment and tell me what deliciousness you’re cooking up. i want to know everything.
