ummmmm, yeah. i almost didn’t post this.
it’s supposed to have jalapeno in it and clearly, it doesn’t.
it was one of those days when i had been running from thing to errand to meeting and hadn’t sat down and all i really wanted to do was hole up in my kitchen with music in the background, and cook up a little magic. and i concocted these little guys up (i know smarty pants, that’s not how you use the word in a sentence) – but who am i to keep you from tequila? ain’t nobody keeping me away from my girl tequila.
it’s still delicious, and the chili salt adds some heat. but the spice fanatic in me is still pouting.
let’s be honest. i’ll probably make these again tonight with jalapenos and then i’ll report back with all my thoughts and feelings.
anyway, how you been? what have you been doing?
i wish i could sit right across from you and we could sip these cocktails (with jalapenos) and you could tell me all about your day, all the exciting things that have happened. i’ve been feeling like that a lot lately. about people that are far away. as nice as texting, and facetiming and emailing are – somedays it feels like it makes it harder. when what you really want to do is take them in your arms because you know they’re having a really hard time and words seem so insufficient, and when you want to feel the chubby little hands of your 1 year old niece as she stumbles her way towards you as she’s learning to walk instead of on a screen, or you want to jump up in down with that friend because you’re just so excited for her news and a phone call isn’t enough.
sometimes my niece tries to touch me while i’m facetiming with her, she like tries to climb inside the phone and gets really close to it and i swear – my heart rips open. i’m right with you there lily girl, i feel the same way.
should we drink? feel like we should drink.
why do they call them cocktails anyway? i legitimately hope there is an answer to that. it’s almost as good a question as ‘why do men have nipples’, to which there is an actual answer. and a whole book titled after that very subject.
this is a good mid march margarita. it’s not like citrus in your face summer margarita and it’s not bourbon winter margarita (is that a thing) – i just googled it, apparently it is, gross. this is just the right marg for the thaw heading into the warmer months.
and for gosh sakes, don’t forget the jalapeno!
- 5 ounces blanco tequila (i had don julio)
- 2 ounces triple sec
- 2 1//2 ounces fresh lime juice
- 2 ounces fresh grapefruit juice
- 4 lime wheels for garnish
- jalapeño, sigh
- Chile salt (half and half)
- 1 tablespoon salt, 1 tablespoons ground chile peppers
- add everything together with some ice in a shaker. shake, shake, shake.
- wet glasses with lime juice, running a wedge around the rim.
- place chile salt on plate and cover the tops of glasses with chile salt.
- pour in marg mix
- add in lime wedges
